Event date: 11 April 2024

Can acute injury to the intestinal barrier of dogs lead to the development of chronic enteropathies? Yes, according to four studies that evaluate the effects of acute intestinal conditions, including parvovirus infection, giardiasis, and acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome.

In this session, Dr. Stefan Unterer reviews the structures and functions of the gastrointestinal barrier, including the intestinal microbiota and dysbiosis, with an emphasis on their protective roles. Findings from four key studies are reviewed. Dr. Unterer concludes his presentation with recommendations to help prevent the transition of acute intestinal disorders to chronic enteropathies or food allergies.
