Previous studies have shown a strong association between the presence of netF-toxin encoding strains of Clostridium perfringens and development of acute hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome (AHDS). This current study showed that C. perfringens strains encoding for enterotoxin and netF-toxin are increased in a subset of dogs with AHDS, but the abundance of these organisms decreases rapidly within several days without the need for antimicrobial treatment.
