Performing a proper dietary elimination trial is critical to diagnosis and management of many gastrointestinal (GI) conditions in dogs and cats. Whether a diet trial is successful is determined by appropriate food selection, owner and pet compliance with diet recommendations, and assessing patient response to determine next steps.
In this presentation, Dr. Kathrani reviews the critical role of a diet history in selecting an appropriate food for a diet trial and lists the advantages and disadvantages of the different categories of pet food available. Since trial and error are often part of dietary elimination trials, the value of client education to a successful trial cannot be underestimated. Dr. Kathrani offers many more insights into dietary trial success throughout her talk.
