Ageing in dogs is associated with physical and metabolic changes in the brain that are irreversible. After identifying the main risk factors affecting brain health, ageing, and dementia in humans from the scientific literature, Purina researchers considered how nutrition could be used to address those risk factors in dogs. The result was identification of brain-supporting nutrients and several studies demonstrating the benefits of optimal nutrition in both healthy senior dogs and dogs with cognitive dysfunction syndrome.
