Mechanisms of Developing Food Allergy: Gut-Skin Crosstalk

Speakers:

Liam O’Mahony, PhD, PD

Event date: 11 April 2024

Both gut and skin host highly interactive ecosystems made up of diverse communities of bacteria, fungi, viruses, bacteriophages, and archaea. These ecosystems work together to create a sophisticated system. Dysbiosis in the skin microbiome is positively correlated with atopic dermatitis severity and systemic sensitization to food and airborne allergens.

This session explores the crosstalk between skin and gut as a mechanism that contributes to food allergen sensitization.
