Chronic enteropathy is a multifactorial disease manifested by clinical signs lasting more than 3 weeks. Although dogs, cats, and humans can develop chronic enteropathy, the condition is different in cats and dogs compared to people.
A substantial segment of dogs and cats respond to changes in diet and are considered food responsive. Those that partially respond or do not respond at all to dietary management may be treated with antibiotics. But what is the evidence and efficacy for antibiotic use in chronic enteropathy cases?
Dr. Julien Dandrieux discusses the evidence for antibiotic use—and non-use—and provides alternatives for managing chronic enteropathies in canine and feline patients.
